Good morning, everyone!
A programming note: Everything Briefing will be out tomorrow and will return on Wednesday as I celebrate the birthday of the love of my life, Madeline. She is an indispensable part of this work, and I am eternally grateful for her.
Today, we will look at President Donald Trump’s domestic policy bill, Middle East negotiations, and the week of news ahead.
Let’s get to it.
The Week Ahead
-President Donald Trump will host Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House today.
-U.S. and Iranian negotiators are expected to meet in Oslo, Norway, for nuclear talks.
-Rhode Island and South Carolina will hold local elections on Tuesday.
-Foreign ministers from the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) will meet in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
-Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva will host Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Brasília.

Major Developments
-President Donald Trump signed his sweeping domestic policy bill into law on Friday at the White House in a ceremony that coincided with Independence Day celebrations. After signing the behemoth legislation, Elon Musk—a vocal critic of the tax-and-spending package—announced he would form a new political party in protest.
On the same day, hundreds of anti-Trump “Free America” protests took place across the country.
-At least 81 people have been killed after heavy flooding swept Central Texas on Saturday.
-Leaders from the BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa) grouping gathered in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, over the weekend. Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian leader Vladimir Putin were not in attendance.
The bloc, established in 2009 to represent the Global South, granted membership to Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, and the United Arab Emirates last year.
-U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said countries that have not reached trade deals with Washington will see tariff rates “boomerang” on August 1.
Trump announced sweeping tariffs on nearly every country in April before pausing their implementation to allow for negotiations. The pause is expected to expire on Wednesday.
-Representatives for Israel and Hamas met in Qatar over the weekend for indirect talks over a possible ceasefire agreement in the besieged Gaza Strip.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the terrorist group had made “unacceptable” changes to a cessation proposal put forth by the Trump administration.
